What is it?

Every November, the city of Truro in Cornwall holds a community lantern festival, with more than 600 handmade lanterns on display. This year’s City of Lights event will take place on Wednesday 22nd November.

The City of Lights lantern festival sees the streets filled with handmade and professional lanterns, as members of the local community parade through the city.  The theme for this year’s lanterns will be ‘Glow’.

The procession will take in Lemon Street, River Street, St Nicholas Street, Boscawen Street and Lemon Quay.

As well as the lanterns, there will be music and dance as part of the procession with samba, brass bands, and pipes and drums all taking part.  The event will also include musical and dance performances before and after the parade, and food stalls will be operating from 3pm around Lemon Quay, Boscawen Street and King Street.  Food and drink vendors this year will include the Cornish Duck Truck, Katie’s Cornish Hotpots, Donut Dollies, Shellfish Pig, and St Ives Cider.

If you are visiting this year’s lantern festival, please do look out for people collecting money on the night.  The festival relies on the generosity of public donations.
