Forget pumpkins, get turnip carving at the Hop Tu Naa Festival

By Caroline King - October 19, 2017Posted in : FEATURED-STORIES, Festival

Hop Tu Naa - Isle of Man

Carve a turnip for Hop Tu Naa

When: 29th October 2017, 10am – 4pm

Where: Cregneash, Isle of Man

£: Admission costs £8 for adults and £4 for children. Members receive 10% off

What is it?

Forget pumpkin carving for Halloween, on the Isle of Man they do things a little differently.  Hop Tu Naa celebrates the beginning of the Celtic new year and the start of winter; and if you head to Cregneash on Sunday 29th October you can carve yourself a turnip lantern to celebrate this traditional festival.

In addition, there will be traditional dancing, stories and folk customs, and a storytelling session exploring old superstitions.

Visitors can carve a turnip lantern or make a herbal charm.  End the day with a grand turnip lantern parade, led by musicians, through the village.
