What is it?
This year’s Wells next the Sea Pirate Festival will take place from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th September in the Norfolk seaside town.
The pirate shenanigans will commence on the Friday evening with a Smugglers Ball at Wells Town Football Ground. There is, of course, a pirates and wenches dress code. The ball will have food, drink and the Chest of Pogs pirate band. Visitors should beware, there will be sword fights and musket firing throughout the event!
The festival will continue on the Saturday and Sunday with the opening ceremony at the Quayside, followed by plenty of pirate themed entertainment and activities. There will be a pirate camp, with pirates and musket firing on the hour throughout the day. There will also be a pirate market, pirate battles and raids, a navy press gang, pirate boat trips, walking the plank and a firing squad.
Visitors should also look out for more pirate shenanigans around the town, a pirate parade, pirate stilt walkers, pirate buskers, and pirate bingo. Finally, a best dressed pirate competition will take place at the Quayside, with prizes for the best dressed male, female and young pirate.
