What is it?

This year’s Enchanted Forest in Scotland will take place from Thursday 28th September to Sunday 29th October with the theme of ‘Edge of the Water’.  The Enchanted Forest is a light and sound experience taking place in Faskally Wood, near Pitlochry.

The event will see the trees and surrounding landscape lit up with a special light show, which this year will draw its inspiration from the wood’s own loch, Loch Dunmore.  An original music score will accompany the light show, which this year has been created by lighting designers Kate Bonney and Simon Hayes, and sound designers RJ McConnell and Jon Beales.

This year’s event will also feature a family friendly storytelling yurt, and food and drink. Scottish beef burgers, mulled wine and hot chocolate will be on offer to warm up forest visitors.

Faskally was purchased by the Forestry Commission in 1953, and covers 365 hectares.  The area where the Enchanted Forest will take place is approximately 66 hectares in size.

The forest contains 25 recorded species of tree, of which only a handful are native; Scots Pine, Silver and Downy Birch, Ash, Oak, Rowan, Common Alder, Hazel, and Bird Cherry.  The oldest tree at Faskally is approximately 200-225 years old.
