What is it?
On Saturday 26th August, head to the Yorkshire Dales for some Stories under the Stars.
International storyteller Cassandra Wye, will be performing a UK premiere of her new show Stories under the Stars, at Lower Winskill Farm. Audiences will gather around the campfire, a tradition as old as time, for myths and folktales inspired by the sky above.
The event is hosted by arts and heritage charity Settle Stories, who aim to bring high quality artists and storytellers to the Dales, from across the world. This will be Cassandra Wye’s second visit to Settle, after 2015’s acclaimed Settle Stories Star Party, a meeting of storytellers and astronomers.
The Star Party sparked a new fascination for Cassandra Wye, in performing skylore stories for adults. After leaving Settle she was awarded an Arts Council Grant which allowed her to fly to America and receive training and mentorship from storyteller Lynne Morley. At 83 years old, Morley has passed on her stories to Wye, to ensure they will carry on being told.
This UK premiere performance shares the stories of those who have followed the stars – from sky-maidens looking for love, to runaway slaves searching for freedom – the stories celebrate those who follow a dream to dare their future.
These tales, both funny and heartbreaking, should amuse and move audiences, and performances have been received with great praise in America already.
Settle Stories is the largest storytelling organisation in the North of England, and the charity produces the highly acclaimed bi-annual Settle Stories Festival.
