What is it?
The 57th Shaldon Water Carnival Day will take place on Saturday 5th August in Devon. This year, the quirky water-themed event will feature a day of entertainment including novelty games and decorated boat parades.
The Carnival Day will begin at 10am with the official opening, this will be followed by novelty games and a sand sculpture competition. The afternoon will see fancy dress parades through the village, a magic show and RNLI demonstrations.
One of the main highlights will be the decorated boat parades in the Teign Estuary from 4.30pm. This popular event draws hundreds of spectators along both sides of the estuary to watch the colourful display of boats. Previous boats in the parade have been decorated as the car from Ghostbusters, the Yellow Submarine and a Punch & Judy theatre.
There will also be beach stalls, food and drink, the crowning of the Carnival Queen, crab collecting, and balloon shows. The day ends with a children’s disco, a BBQ, and live music on The Green.
