What is it?
This year’s Pershore Plum Festival will take place from Saturday 26th to Monday 28th August in Worcestershire.
Over the bank holiday weekend, the market town of Pershore will be turning purple in tribute to the humble plum. Shop fronts will be specially decorated with purple or plum themes for the festival, and lots of plum related entertainment will be taking place.
Visitors should look out for the unique plum characters popping up at the festival events, including the Plum Princess, Prunella the festival mascot, and the Plum Charmer.
The festival will kick off on the Saturday with river boat trips, and beer, food and music at the Angel Hotel. Entertainment in Plum Alley will include music, balloon modelling and other entertainment.
On the Sunday there will be a Plum Plodders 10k race, a Plum Pooches dog show, and a Plum Pedal Push cycle event. There will also be entertainment at the bandstand, a craft market, and a food village. The Plum River Zone will have boat trips, a picnic area, dragon boat racing, and food, beer and music.
The Monday will be Plum Fayre Day, with an art trail, classic cars, abbey tower tours, a food village, and children’s activities.
A Plum Fun Zone will feature a fun fair, face painting, Punch and Judy, and drumming workshops. There will also be a Plum Bazaar, and plum produce in Plum Alley.
The Pershore area has been famous for growing plums since medieval times. The modern-day Plum Fayre began in 1996 to celebrate Pershore’s long history with the fruit.
