What is it?
Step back in time to the 1800s with the Victorian Festival in Llandrindod Wells, from Monday 21st to Sunday 27th August.
This will be the town’s 36th Victorian Festival, featuring an eclectic programme of events during the day and evening, including parades, competitions, displays, talks, music, theatre and dance. Quirky highlights of the festival will include a Historic Cycle Cavalcade, a Best-Dressed Victorian Hat Competition, a festival of street organs, a Victorian Grand Etiquette Ball, and a Suffragette Demonstration.
The Victorian Festival kicks off on the Monday with an opening ceremony, attended by ‘Queen Victoria’, children’s entertainment, and a pageant of the Queen’s servants and staff. Tuesday’s events will include the cycle cavalcade, a tea dance and a production of Great Expectations. Entertainment will continue on the Wednesday and Thursday with children’s fancy dress, music at the bandstand, a costume competition, and music hall entertainment.
Friday will feature an appearance from Queen Victoria, circus performers, best-dressed hat and parasol competitions, street organs, and a Victorian military encampment. The weekend events will include vintage vehicles, a carnival parade, Etiquette Ball, suffragette demonstration, and torchlight parade.
There will also be a Victorian shop window competition, an exhibition of childhood memories, and period costumes for hire from La Modiste Mercantile.
