What is it?
Dartmouth Royal Regatta will take place from Thursday 24th to Saturday 26th August with a host of sailing, music and fun events.
This year’s regatta will feature a variety of sailing and rowing events, air displays, a night of live music, a fete, fireworks, and plenty of alternative sporting competitions.
Highlights will include a night-time parade of illuminated boats, a treasure hunt on the water, a steam boat rally, and a waterborne tug of war (a tug of war held on the water, between two crews of rowing boats).
Away from the sailing and rowing, there will be a more light-hearted programme of events for the whole family to enjoy. On the Friday, crews from the Royal Naval Ships will be taking part in a barrel rolling race, this will be followed by the infamous Trolley Grand Prix.
Also on the Friday, the Waiters & Waitresses Race will be taking place, with local workers competing against one another. The waiter or waitress to cross the line with the most liquid left in a pint glass is declared the winner.
On the Thursday there will be the all important Ice Cream Eating Competition, and a children’s fancy dress competition. Other fun competitions will include the best dressed house and spot the oddity.
