What is it?
The annual All England Open Stone Skimming Championships will be taking place on Saturday 19th August at the National Trust’s Fell Foot Park in Cumbria.
The championships will start at 11am, and people of all ages are welcome to enter contest, as individuals or teams. There is no need to register beforehand, simply turn up on the day to take part.
The aim of the contest is to try to skim a stone the furthest distance across the lake. Each entrant will get three stones to skim. For the skim to count, the stone must bounce on the water at least three times and stay within the designated lane. Teams should consist of four people and the average score of each player’s best skim will be recorded.
As well as the championships, there will be children’s activities, a beer tent, BBQ, and ice cream.
The event is organised by the South Cumbria Rivers Trust and money raised will go towards conservation work in the South Lakes area.
