What is it?
This summer, Painshill in Surrey is hosting a Wild Summer Camp, which will offer an array of adventures for the kids (aged 8 – 13 years). There will be everything from den building, campfire cooking and woodland crafts, to treasure hunts, for children to enjoy.
Mondays will be centred on bushcraft, with den building, fire lighting (and marshmallow cooking), tool making and woodland games. Tuesdays will be creative days, with giant sandcastle building, clay sculpting, and mask making.
Wednesdays will be all about wild woods, with crafts and games carrying a wood theme. Thursdays will bring adventure to the camp with a treasure hunt and blindfold rope trail. Fridays will see children making giant dens and playing woodland games.
Painshill is one of Europe’s most important 18th century landscape gardens. The 158-acre landscape garden represents the vision of an English gentleman, The Hon. Charles Hamilton. Inspired by Renaissance art and his Grand Tours across Europe, he created a sequence of breath-taking and surprising vistas. The landscapes, originally created between 1738 and 1773, form living works of art into which Hamilton placed follies for dramatic effect.
Painshill has undergone significant restoration in recent years. The Visitor Centre, which was opened in 2001, welcomes over 75,000 visitors every year.
