What is it?
Retro Rendezvous, Ulverston’s festival of vintage, will take place from Friday 14th to Sunday 16th July in Cumbria, with music, food, drink, dance, cinema, clothes, vehicles and old school cycling events.
This year’s event will include live music, classic cars and motorcycles, the Velo Retro cycle race, and a vintage tea room. The Retro Rendezvous will kick off on the Friday evening with rock ‘n’ roll from The Downtown Daddyo’s at the Coronation Hall (this is a ticketed event).
The entertainment will continue over the weekend with a vintage market selling gifts, clothes, cakes, homewares and jewellery. This year, visitors can find out about the History of the NHS, as a group of nurses set up a stall with old instruments, posters and uniforms, with a bit of interaction thrown in.
A retro tea room will be setting up in the Coronation Hall with a selection of traditional style cakes and biscuits for sale. Visitors can also get ice cream from a vintage ice cream van, burgers from the back of a VW Beetle, and chilled frizzante wine from the quirky Piaggio Ape van.
On the Sunday, the Retro Velo will see competitors riding out in vintage attire on classic cycles. There will also be a selection of classic cars and motorbikes on display in the town centre over the weekend.
There will be vintage live music from The Prophets, Fuse Duo, and the Blue Heaven Jump Band. Also over the weekend there will be a fashion parade, ukulele workshops, classic movie screenings and cocktails, and the story of a Leeds housewife who became the most dominant female athlete of the 20th century.
