What is it?
This year’s Cumbria Steam Gathering takes place on Saturday 29th and Sunday 3oth July at Cark Airfield.
For over four decades, the Cumbria Steam & Vintage Vehicle Society has been bringing together vintage vehicles from far and wide to the airfield in Flookburgh, for one massive summer gathering.
Highlights at this year’s gathering will include a sheep show, lawn mower racing, and Mr Alexanders Travelling Show. There will also be the Broke FMX extreme Moto Cross display team and two of the late Barry Sheene`s world championship winning Suzuki RG500 motorcycles on display.
The popular Sheep Show will be returning to this year’s gathering, providing some educational sheep-themed entertainment, as will the Pantonic All Stars Orchestra.
In the working area of the rally site there will be demonstrations of agricultural machinery, and the Morecambe Bay Archery Club exhibiting their skills. The North West Lawn Mower Racers will be staging their own frantic, low-cost version of motor racing.
The 2017 Cumbria Steam Gathering will be representing the whole spectrum of classic and vintage vehicles that have been lovingly and painstakingly brought back into use, many from near scrap condition.
Arena parades will take place throughout the weekend and each morning. Visitors will have the chance to drive a steam engine in the main arena in return for a small donation to a local charity.
The popular collections and craft marquees will be displaying artefacts and skills from bygone days, and a food hall will be providing the best of local produce. There will also be an array of trade stands, and for those who are involved in a restoration project, the Autojumble stalls will have plenty of spare parts.
