What is it?
Arcs and Sparks is an opportunity for visitors to gain an insight into electricity; what it is, how it works and the role the region played in laying the foundations for a now universal technology.
The Arcs and Sparks store is located in the Discovery Museum’s basement. It is a fascinating collection of electrical inventions from the Victorian period to the present day. These guided tours are led by curators, who are supported by expert volunteers with a wealth of experience in the electricity industry. Tours are guided by visitors’ questions, which in the past have ranged from enquiring about how Tyneside-designed heavy-duty switchgear helps to safeguard the national grid, to asking how to get the best out of the latest domestic ‘smart’ meters.
