What is it?
The World Dock Pudding Championship has taken place annually in Mytholmroyd since 1971. This year’s event takes place on Sunday 23rd April.
The dock pudding is a Calder Valley speciality made from dock leaves (Polygonum Bistorta rather than the common dock leaf), nettles, oatmeal, onions, butter and seasoning. It is traditionally eaten as a part of a Yorkshire breakfast.
Competitors in The World Dock Pudding Championship will prepare a whole cooked breakfast including the dock pudding. The winner is decided behind closed doors by the judges, but visitors can watch the actual cooking taking place in the hall. The champion receives a cup for their efforts.
The championship will take place as part of a food and drink festival, which will see local producers showing off tasty treats, and stalls selling a range of goods and gifts.
