Where: Across the UK
What is it?
This year’s Record Store Day will take place on Saturday 22nd April with a whole host of events and special releases.
To celebrate Record Store Day’s 10th birthday, a list has been drawn up of official UK champions. These are, Slaves, Anton Newcombe, Kate Tempest and Izzy Bizu. All of these artists will have exciting limited edition vinyl releases for the day and will be making special appearances in the run up to the event.
Record Store Day was conceived 10 years ago in the USA and is coordinated by the Entertainment Retailers Association in the UK. The day brings together hundreds of the UK’s independent record shops to celebrate their unique culture. Exclusive vinyl is made available on the day and shops often have live music and in-store events to celebrate the event.
This year there will be more than 500 special releases, mostly by independent labels, which will include LPs, 7 and 12 inch singles and coloured vinyl. There will be releases from labels such as Domino, Wichita, Bella Union, and Fortuna Pop! With singles and albums from a diverse range of bands and artists including Altered Images, Bert Jansch, The Beatles, Blossoms, British Sea Power, Cabbage, The Cure, David Bowie, Dolly Parton, Elbow, The Flaming Lips, Field Music, Frank Zappa, Iggy Pop, Maximo Park, Midlake, Pearl Jam, Primal Scream, The Raincoats, Soulwax, Spacemen 3, Super Furry Animals, The Wedding Present, and Yes.
More than 200 independent record stores across the UK will be taking part by stocking the releases and hosting special events with live music performances, DJs, goodie bags, raffles and giveaways.
