What is it?
The Shire Horse Society will be staging the world’s largest gathering of Shire horses at Staffordshire Showground, from Friday 17th to Sunday 19th March. The National Shire Horse Show will see around 250 pedigree Shires gathered, all their glory, for the weekend.
The event is widely regarded as the largest gathering anywhere in the world of these magnificent animals. The national show is the flagship event of the Shire Horse Society; the only charity dedicated to the protection, promotion and improvement of the Shire horse.
Enthusiasts are expected to travel from all over Europe to show their horses, and the show offers spectators the chance to find out more about the Shire horse and see them shown in style. There will be a grand parade of horses on the Saturday and Sunday, there will also be competitions taking place and a selection of trade stands.
This year the charity has secured Great British Bake Off star Val Stones as the after-dinner speaker at the show dinner, held at Bingley Hall on Friday 17th March. Tickets for the dinner cost £30 and are available from the Shire Horse Society.
