What is it?
The Wild West, complete with gunslingers, bandits and Texas rangers will be coming to Cheshire’s Anderton Boat Lift on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th September.
The weekend of free family fun, follows the success of the boat lift’s Viking Weekend earlier in the year. The Wild West event will be performed by Lonestar, the country’s biggest Western re-enactment group.
The event will see the grounds of the Anderton Boat Lift transformed by authentic living history displays, including a mine and two small camps. In the camps, visitors can view living history, seeing for themselves how people in the Wild West lived and cooked without electricity and running water.
In addition to these demonstrations, there will be will be two thrilling live action shows on each day, starting at 11am and 2pm. These will feature a dramatic show down between Mexican bandits and gold mine prospectors.
Throughout the day, visitors can see the sheriff and preacher trying to reform troublesome cowboys. Visitors will find out what happens when worthless shares in the gold mine are sold, and encounter the Temperance Society inviting the public to sign the pledge. There will be a gun display, an American Native exhibition, and children can have a go at throwing horseshoes.

The Anderton Boat Lift is owned by the Canal and River Trust, and was restored in 2002 after a £7 million restoration, made possible due to a substantial grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund. The Canal and River Trust is the guardian of 2,000 miles of historic waterways across England and Wales, caring for the nation’s third largest collection of listed structures, as well as museums, archives, and hundreds of important wildlife sites.
