What is it?
Chagford Film Festival is one of the quirkiest film festivals in the UK, bringing the glamour of Hollywood to Dartmoor.
This year’s festival takes place from Monday 26th September to Saturday 1st October; with a mix of films, events, and workshops, presented by top industry professionals.
With the theme of ‘Las Vegas comes to Chagford’, there will be films with a Vegas theme, a Las Vegas Show Night with Elvis and Frank Sinatra, a best Elvis competition, a casino, and even an Elvis wedding chapel. The week will finish in spectacular style, with a grand finale musical street parade on the Saturday.
The festival will kick off on the Monday evening with free acrobatic entertainment from Circo Rum Ba Ba, in the town square.
The festival will be presenting an animation day on the Tuesday, with special guests Aardman Animations. There will be hands-on model-making workshops with one of Aardman’s talented model-makers, a special lunch event, and films in the evening followed by a Q&A.
Sol Cinema, the country’s smallest solar-powered cinema, is back by popular demand for two days, on Tuesday and Wednesday. The cinema will be parked up in the town square, complete with red carpet, smartly attired ushers and usherettes, and free popcorn.
Chocolatier Grant Mather will be doing a chocolate making afternoon as part of the festival’s food-themed day on the Thursday.
Also on the Thursday, a Sofa Cinema event will be taking place, with screenings taking place in secret and intimate locations. All of the film screenings will be loosely based on the topic of food, and guests will meet at the Globe Inn before being escorted to their secret locations.
Friday’s highlight will be the Amazing Las Vegas Cabaret Show, with Vegas style music, comedy and showgirls.
The festival will wrap up on the Saturday with an Elvis Tribute Competition, a Las Vegas Wedding Chapel, and a Vegas themed Street Parade. Visitors are encouraged to join in with the parade and dress up as showgirls, gangsters and film stars.
Chagford is a small town in Devon’s Dartmoor National Park. The area has plenty of places to stay, eat, and drink for festival visitors.
