What is it?

Whilst most athletes and sports fans are gearing up for the Olympics, a small town in Wales is gearing up for some altogether different games.

The World Alternative Games will be taking place in Llanwrtyd Wells, from Friday 12th to Monday 29th August.

There are expected to be 67 quirky sporting events taking place over the two weeks, with everything from bog snorkelling to finger jousting.

The first weekend kicks off with a whole host of quirky events including hide ‘n’ seek, a slow bicycle race, worm charming, a space hopper race, egg throwing, finger jousting, backward running, gravy wrestling, and wheelbarrow racing.

Events over the rest of the games fortnight include a zombie race, conker championships, barrel rolling, toe wrestling, hay bale tossing, beer mat tossing, and husband dragging.

The infamous World Bog Snorkelling Championships will take place on Sunday 28th August, and now has a children’s event which runs along the main competition.
