When: 11th – 14th August 2016
Where: Ashton Court Estate, Bristol
What is it?
The annual Bristol International Balloon Fiesta, Europe’s largest ballooning event, takes place from Thursday 11th to Sunday 14th August.
The free family event will see more than 130 hot air balloons taking off from Ashton Court Estate, at dawn and dusk each day.
Bristol International Balloon Fiesta will feature four days of colourful hot-air balloon displays, with all shapes and sizes lifting off over the city of Bristol. In addition to the balloons there will be entertainment including fairground rides, food stalls and bars, live music, circus workshops, street shows, games and activities.
Highlights of the fiesta will include:
Watching the spectacular balloon ascents up close. Each morning at 6am visitors can enjoy breakfast and balloons, watching the hot air balloons take to the sky as the sun rises with a morning coffee and food from one of the stalls. For the evening ascents, visitors are encouraged to arrive early to get a good spot to watch.
The famous Nightglows, which will take place on Thursday 11th and Saturday 14th at about 9pm. The Nightglows see a selection of the balloons light up the night sky. The Nightglows end with a fireworks display.
Live music at the Fiesta Band Stand. Music comes from the likes of young indie pop band, Odds to End, and folk/pop artist Sophie Hosken-Taylor.
The Cirque Bijou area will have a whole host of games, workshops and activities. This will include Litterati, the chance to create a trash orchestra out of recycled materials, and the Water Balloon Toss, a mass participation game. There will also be baby racing, balloon modelling and bizarre comedy street shows.
