Our latest Curiosity of the Week will be of interest to all you big kids out there. This week we feature the House of Marbles, which is home to the largest marble run in the UK.
The House of Marbles in Devon offers visitors three museums to look around, focusing on glass and marbles, games, and pottery.
Visitors can watch glass making in action, and learn the history of glass, find out the history of the Bovey Tracey Pottery Company, and discover games from as far back as the 1600s.
However, the House of Marbles is also home to a quirky array of marble runs, including the largest marble run in the UK. The giant ‘Snooki’ run, made by Alex Schmid, can be found in the House of Marble’s shop. The magical metal contraption zig-zags along the walls.
There are also three further, smaller metal runs, which can be found in the Glass & Marble Museum. Visitors can, of course, enjoy setting marbles rolling along the marble runs.
In addition to the marble runs and museums, the House of Marbles has an ‘Old Pottery Restaurant’, and a games garden complete with a floating marble, skittles, and chess.
If you fancy unleashing the inner child, the attraction is free to visit and open all year round.
