Two kite festivals breeze into Lancashire this month

Have all the fun of the air this month as two kite festivals take place in Lancashire, Catch the Wind Kite Festival and St Annes Kite Festival.

Catch the Wind Kite Festival

When: 16th & 17th July 2016, from 12pm

Where: The Promenade, Morecambe, Lancashire

£: Free

What is it?

This year’s Catch the Wind Kite Festival takes place on the promenade in Morecambe, on Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th July.

The event will see kites of all shapes and sizes flown by professional kites flyers.  Visitors are also encouraged to bring along their own kites to fly.

Other entertainment during the festival will include live music from bands and artists including the Baybeat Streetband, the Easy Stride Band, Cumbria Gaita Band, Sarah Yaseen and Haiku Salut. There will also be children’s workshops, craft workshops, circus, and a funfair.

St Annes Kite Festival - Lancashire

Kites of all shapes and sizes fly above the beach at St Annes.

When: 30th & 31st July 2016, from 11am

Where: The beach, St Annes, Lancashire

£: Free

What is it?

St Annes Kite Festival will take place on the beach, on Saturday 30th and Sunday 31st July.

St Annes seafront will be awash with colour on the Saturday and Sunday with an array of display kites on the beach adjacent to the pier. The festival will feature single line kites of all shapes and sizes, including a 30 metre long inflatable octopus, flying cows, dogs, and hippos.

Oscar, the world’s biggest teddy bear kite, and the world’s largest kite, will both be present at the festival. Visitors will also be able to see two-line and four-line stunt kites being flown in time to music.

Visitors will be able to bring their teddy bears along to take part in the teddy parachute drop, sponsored by Storytellers Inc Book Shop.  Each brave teddy will receive a certificate of achievement.

On the Sunday there will a procession with Brazilian dancers, and visitors are encouraged to bring a drum or whistle along to join in the fun.  There will also be live music, a mini funfair, market stalls, and face painting throughout the weekend.
