What is it?
Clovelly Maritime Festival will take place on Sunday 17th July in the Devon village.
The festival day promises a fun packed programme of activities and entertainment for all ages. The Clovelly Gun Run kicks off the day’s events. The run sees two teams of cadets taking it in turn to manhandle a weighty gun, from the harbour to the Victoria Fountain. Visitors are encouraged to support the cadets as they try to beat last year’s race time.
This year will see the first Clovelly Cup Race take place, with the North Devon Yacht Club. There will be racing outside the harbour, across the bay, from 11am to 2pm. Festival visitors will be able to see the boats surrounding the harbour and setting off around the race course.
The Yacht Club will also be present in the harbour, with information on the club and how to become a sea cadet.
Throughout the day there will be music, street entertainment, activities and games for the whole family, including the chance to build your own miniature boat with The Plough Arts Centre.
There will also be mermaid storytelling with Tales from the Sea, shipwreck survival, Punch and Judy, a beach spa, henna tattoos, and face painting.
A variety of stalls will be selling food and event-themed arts and crafts. There will be free entry for under 16’s who attend the festival in maritime-themed fancy dress, so it’s worth digging out a costume.
