What is it?
On Saturday 30th July, the 11th Brompton World Championship final will take place in central London.
The championship sees competitors completing a 16K circuit around St James’ Park on folding Brompton bikes.
The race begins with a Le Mans-style mad dash to the bikes, with competitors quickly unfolding them, before racing the circuit as fast as possible.
Unlike the lycra-clad cycling events, such as the Tour de France, the participants must dress in smart commuter-style wear, with no sportswear in sight. So expect to see a blur of shirted competitors, dressed in a range of ties, bow ties, jackets and hats.
Prizes are awarded on the day for the fastest three males and females, the fastest veteran male and female, and the best dressed male and female competitor.
The event is part of the Prudential RideLondon cycling festival, which takes place from Friday 29th to Sunday 31st July. There will be plenty of cycling races and rides taking place for all abilities.
