The Big Cheese festival takes place in Wales from Friday 29th to Sunday 31st July, with street entertainers, living history encampments, music, a traditional funfair, folk dancing, fire eating, minstrels and troubadours.
The Big Cheese is an annual free festival which celebrates the history, heritage and culture of Caerphilly. It is the 19th Big Cheese festival, and this year it kicks off on the Friday from 3pm with the opening of the funfair, followed by live music at 6pm, and the Great Cheese Race at 6.30pm. The live music will come from Kizzy Crawford, Vince James, and Whitehall Parade. The Friday closes with a firework display at 10pm.
The Great Cheese Race sees teams of four race around a special course in the grounds of the castle. The teams must carry truckles of cheese around the course on stretchers. There will be races for children and adults, and prizes will be awarded for the winners and those in the best fancy dress.
Over the Saturday and Sunday there will be entertainment from 11am including re-enactment displays, musical entertainment, educational activities, food and craft stalls, an animal marquee and traditional funfair.
In the Re-enactment Arena there will be a variety of interactive living history encampments and re-enactment displays, illustrating the many different periods of Welsh history.

See how food was traditionally prepared and cooked, as well as clothing, weapons and armour of the 14th century. Watch falconry displays, Viking battles, and gladiators.
The Castle Arena will have martial arts demonstrations and samba workshops. Armed forces units, forces charities, and voluntary organisations will be present in the Military Village. There also will be entertainment in the town centre on both days.
The Food and Cheese Market will see food producers from around Wales with goods including Welsh cheese, cakes, chutney, liqueurs, cider and wine. There will also be a Craft Market with local craftspeople displaying goods and demonstrating their skills in silverwork, artwork, textiles, slate, and glasswork.
