What is it?
This year’s Woolfest will take place in Cumbria on Friday 24th and Saturday 25th June 2016. The festival is a celebration of British wool and has been taking place annually since 2005.
Woolfest kicks off on Friday at 10am and continues until 5pm on Saturday, with a range of demonstrations, stalls, exhibitions and workshops. There will also be a fleece sale, where hundreds of raw fleeces from various breeders are sold to people for spinning.
There will be various demonstrations throughout each day on everything from freestyle weaving, felting, silk fusion basics and embroidery, to lampshade making, natural dollmaking and silk purse making.
On the Friday evening, after 6pm, the Spin In takes place. The evening gives wool and craft enthusiasts a chance to get together and share stories.
There will be various events taking place over the two days, with one of the highlights being a rare breed parade in the main ring. There will be plenty of fibre-producing animals attending this year’s Woolfest, including Cumbrian fell sheep breeds.
Stallholders at this year’s festival will include the Association of Guilds of Weavers, Spinners & Dyers, baa ram ewe, Bigwigs Angora, Castlemilk Moorit Sheep Society, CoolCrafting, Eden Gotland Sheep, Elegant Chaos, Fiery Felts, Fox Tapestry Design, the Herdwick Sheepbreeders Association, Hooked by Design, Natural Born Dyers, and Oliver Twists.
Woolfest is organised by members of The Wool Clip, an award-winning co-operative of Cumbrian based crafts people.
