What is it?
Outdoor arts extravaganza SO Festival is set to return to East Lincolnshire for nine days of free performances.
Now in its eighth year, the event will see a host of explosive and innovative acts tour seven locations across the county, from 25th June to 3rd July.
The festival will be visiting Mablethorpe, Horncastle, Alford, Louth, Spilsby and Woodhall Spa, finishing in Skegness for a finale weekend.
This year the festival takes its inspiration from the beautiful rural, agricultural and coastal landscapes of East Lincolnshire. It will focus on the elements – earth, air, fire and water – with performances aiming to wow the crowds.
There will be new acts and festival favourites, including the Transe Express and The Bullzini Family.
Equilibrius by The Bullzini Family will feature the skills and thrills of the ancient art of high-wire walking. The Bullzini Family will invite audiences into a magical world of balance, where a playful picture is painted in the skies.
There will be a free screening of Garsington Opera’s production of Tchaikovsky’s Eugene Onegin on Saturday 2nd July in a special garden party. Visitors will be able to write a postcard to the past and dress up as a character in the show.
Aerial spectacular Mù, by internationally renowned company Transe Express, will be this year’s headline act. It will take spectators on a journey from the earth to the moon, guided by salamander gargoyles. It will take place in a monumental structure that opens like a giant music box. The large-scale performance uses images, music and twenty brave volunteers to turn Skegness into a magical garden.
SO Festival is delivered by the Magna Vitae Trust for Leisure and Culture, in partnership with East Lindsey District Council and Arts Council England.
