What is it?
Retro Rendezvous, Ulverston’s retro and vintage festival, will take place from Friday 8th to Sunday 10th July 2016. This year’s event will include live music, a retro street market, vintage vehicles and cycling events.
A retro street market will have more than 40 stalls, offering everything from vintage clothes through to a 19th century photo booth.
Look out for the Tintype Trailer, a travelling Victorian darkroom which allows visitors to see the old-style wet plate photography process. Other stalls feature Cumbrian crafts, retro jewellery and accessories, vintage cycles, vintage outdoor apparel, and vintage gifts.
There will be live music at the free Brogden Street stage, and gigs at the Laurel and Hardy Museum. Music comes from The Rhythm Slingers, Freya Green, Harriet Ball, Fuse, and the Blue Heaven Jump Band.
Visitors can expect to see plenty of vintage cars, motorcycles, scooters and bicycles. On the Saturday afternoon there will be a Classic Pram Promenade and a Fashion Parade.
The Roxy will be showing vintage films, including a screening of Some like it Hot on Saturday evening, accompanied by prohibition cocktails. Also on Saturday night, there will be a special screening of A Sunday in Hell at the Hope and Anchor. This vintage cycle film will act as a warm up for Sunday’s events.
Sunday will see the popular vintage cycle events taking place. At 9am the Le Trois Lacs begins, followed by the Le Loafeur at 9.30am. Both events will see cyclists kitted out in vintage clothing, riding classic bicycles. The riders will be led off on their way by the town band.
Refreshments will be suitably retro, with vintage tea rooms, a Retro Gin Palace, traditional ice cream, and a vintage VW camper serving fish and chips.
