What is it?
The annual Ironbridge Gorge Brass Band Festival will take place on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th July 2016.
The festival will showcase some of the finest brass bands from Shropshire and the surrounding counties.
The Ironbridge Gorge Brass Band Festival gives visitors the chance to enjoy over 15 hours of brass band music for free. The event will be taking place on The Green at the Coalbrookdale Museum of Iron. There will be a bar and other refreshments available, and visitors are welcome to bring a picnic with them.
The event is one of the largest, non-competitive brass band festivals in the country. More than ten different brass bands will play on each day of the festival.
Bands will include the Telford Jubilee Band, Shrewsbury Brass Band, City of Birmingham Brass Band, Crewe Brass, Salopian Brass, Black Country Brass Band, Royal Signals, and Die Schwalmtalmusikanten.
On the Saturday evening there will be a charity concert, Brass Night of the Proms, featuring the Royal Signals and Ifton Colliery Band. Bands will be playing traditional favourites such as Rule Britannia and Land of Hope and Glory. There will also be a RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flypast. Tickets for the concert cost £10, and the proceeds will go to Severn Hospice.
This is the 13th year of the festival, which is run entirely by volunteers.
