When: 4th June 2016, 3pm – 10.30pm
Where: City of London (One New Change Cheapside, London EC4M 9AG)
What is it?
The 10th London Nocturne will take place in the heart of the City on Saturday 4th June.
The event sees elite cyclists take to the London streets as the sun goes down. But for those who like their cycle races a little more offbeat, then don’t miss the Folding Bike Race, the Penny Farthing Race, and the Cycle Hire Race.
The Penny Farthing Race will take place at 7.20pm and see competitors of all abilities riding these wonderful cycles through the streets of London in order to win points towards the Penny Farthing World Series.
The Folding Bike Race begins with heats at 4pm, followed by the final at 7.45pm. For this race the competitors must be dressed in business attire and race on folding commuter style bikes. Don’t be fooled by the quirky nature of this race, it is incredibly competitive!
For the Cycle Hire Race, participants must compete on the one of the city’s hire cycles. These bikes are designed for more leisurely riding, so it will be interesting to see how people handle them in race conditions! Just to add an extra challenge, this year the competitors must dock their bikes 100m before the finish line and sprint the rest of the way. The Cycle Hire Race will take place at 5.10pm.
Once these races have finished and the sun has gone down, the elite races begin, giving spectators a chance to see some top cyclists competing after dark. The elite women set off at 8.05pm and the elite men at 8.45pm.
Other entertainment during the afternoon can be found in the cycle themed expo and family area. There will be food and drink stalls, cycle retail stands, demos, face painting, children’s cycle training, air juggling and a Nocturne treasure hunt.
