What is it?
Transform 16 is a bite-sized weekend of performances and events across Leeds.
The weekend will begin on Friday 22nd April with Stitch Theatre’s Rise To Vertex, an Opening Night Party and Chris Goode & Company’s Wanted.
Festival favourites Chris Goode & Company have been commissioned to create Wanted. Starting with a totally blank canvas where anything could happen, Wanted is being created with a diverse range of individuals, families, community groups and local organisations across Leeds – each of whom has been asked the question, ‘what do you most want to see on stage?’
Maybe they’ll want to fill the stage with balloons or majorettes, three minutes of slapstick or ballet, or bunny racing. Whatever they want, it’ll end up in Wanted. Award-winning director Chris Goode is collaborating with a team of creatives to transform people’s unpredictable desires into reality, creating a unique and unforgettable show that asks what happens when you really give your audiences what they want.
To celebrate the development of Transform in an international as well as local context, Saturday 23rd April will see the UK premiere of Schönheitsabend (a beautiful evening), by provocative European choreographers Florentina Holzinger and Vincent Riebeek.
The production sees the duo look back on the stars of the queer, avant-garde dance tradition. Merging madness and ecstasy with explicit eroticism, Schönheitsabend is a modern take on this exotic past, and an absurd love story where reality and dream combine. Schönheitsabend will be presented at Northern Ballet’s Stanley & Audrey Burton Theatre, in collaboration with Live Art Bistro.
The weekend will act as a taster of things to come for independent company Transform, who are planning to run a full festival next year.
