What is it?
Brixham Pirate Festival takes place from 30th April to 2nd May with swashbuckling live music, a shanty town, treasure maps, sea shanties, and of course pirates!
The live music this year will come from bands including Seas of Mirth, Captain Morgan’s Rum Do, The Captain’s Beard, The Exmouth Shanty Men, and Les Corsaires De La Vesdre from east Belgium who’ll be singing real sea shanties.
There will be reenactments taking place over the weekend, including a skirmish aboard the Golden Hind, so watch out for marauding pirates wielding guns!
New for 2016, the pirate festival has introduced The Smuggler’s Run, a competition to tick off as many locations on the treasure map as possible. The winner will be awarded with a free holiday.
Also new for this year is the Shanty Town attraction. The town, located in the harbour area, will have exotic stalls selling goods from around the world and good old pirate grog.
The festival always encourages visitors to get into the spirit of the event and dress up in their best pirate-themed outfits. There are prizes for the best children’s costumes, so it’s well worth the effort.
