Teach kids about money and maths in a duo of shows

By Caroline King - February 16, 2016Posted in : FEATURED-STORIES, Science and Technology, Theatre

Theatre isn’t just for adults, and two new shows will be teaching kids all about the financial crisis and maths. There’ll be a mix of theatre, maths and robots in We’re Stuck! and an interactive game show with ten thousand real pound coins on stage in Play Dough.

Play Dough

When: 16th February – 16th April 2016

Where: Nationwide (see below)

£: Ticket prices vary depending on the venue. Suitable for ages 7+

What is it?

Unlimited Theatre are setting out to explain to children how the global financial crisis affects their lives.  The audience will be split into two teams by game show hosts Queenie and TooMuch, and compete in a series of high energy games played with ten thousand pounds in real pound coins that explain how money works.

Volunteers from each team can help the hosts demonstrate what we mean by hedging, going short, and going long, to show how the game of global finance can affect us all.  Alongside the games, Queenie and TooMuch tell their story of how their lives as young people were affected by the 2008 crisis – but how does it end?  That depends on which team wins.

Play Dough will tour the following venues:
16th – 17th February at The Albany, London
20th February at The Quarterhouse, Folkestone
27th – 28th February at Cast, Doncaster
11th March at Stockton ARC
13th March at The Civic, Barnsley
19th March at artsdepot, London
2nd April at The Lowry, Salford
7th – 8th April at Norden Farm, Maidenhead
14th April at the Arts Centre, Washington
16th April at West Yorkshire Playhouse

We’re Stuck!

When: 25th March – 16th April 2016

Where: Nationwide (see below)

£: Ticket prices vary depending on the event. Suitable for ages 8 – 11

What is it?

A brand new interactive theatre show for 8-11 year olds, We’re Stuck! takes children on a fun adventure with scientists and robots which could change their whole attitude to maths.  Inspired by the extraordinary abilities and limitations of our brains, award-winning theatre-maker Sarah Punshon uses the latest educational neuroscience to tackle how utterly rubbish our brains can be.  Ever got terribly stuck on a problem?  Ever made a stupid mistake and felt like a fool?  Then this show is for you.

Young adventurers will go on a special tour deep into the heart of Volcano Industries where they meet cutting edge scientists struggling with some unusual and extremely tricky problems in their top-secret research laboratory.  In a promenade performance, the ridiculous heroes and the brave young audience go on a voyage of discovery, pitching themselves against ludicrously difficult tasks, getting horribly stuck, and risking total failure.  It’ll be fun.

We’re Stuck! will tour the following venues:
25th March – 1st April at Shoreditch Town Hall
5th – 6th April at Burnley Arts Centre
8th – 9th April at The Boo, Waterfoot
12th – 16th April at Z-arts, Manchester
