Celebrate heritage and pasties in Redruth this weekend

By Caroline King - September 9, 2015Posted in : Fair, Festival, Food & Drink, Heritage

When: 11th – 13th September 2015

Where: Redruth, Cornwall

£: Free except for the Gala Concert (£8) and Ceilidh (£4)

What is it?

The Redruth International Mining & Pasty Festival will take place in Cornwall from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th September 2015. The three-day family event is held within the Cornish Mining World Heritage site, celebrating the history and community of Redruth.

The festival will kick off on Friday with Miner’s Day and a gala concert.  On the Saturday, Pasty Day, there will be an oggy trail, street theatre, food and craft stalls, plus visitors can see a giant pasty being made.  Sunday is Mining Memorial Day, and there will be a free fun day at Victoria Park.  The fun day will begin at 12 noon with stalls, music, games and refreshments.  Finally, on the Sunday evening there will be An Evening of Ceilidh Music & Dance at the Community Centre.

This year there will also be free heritage coach tours, allowing visitors to explore some of the hidden treasures of the area, including the National Trust’s East Pool Mine, Moseley Toy & Train Museum, and Tolgus Tin & Town Museum.
