What is it?
The championships will start at 11am and end at 4pm. People of all ages are welcome to enter contest, as individuals or teams. The aim of the contest is to try to skim a stone the furthest distance across the lake. Each entrant will get three stones to skim. For the skim to count, the stone must bounce on the water at least three times and stay within the designated lane. Teams should consist of four people and the average score of each player’s best skim will be recorded.
As well as the skimming championships, there will be stone-themed activities organised by South Cumbria Rivers Trust volunteers. National Trust Rangers will be helping children enjoy some of the 50 things they should do before they are 11¾. There will also be stalls, a barbecue, a beer tent and ice cream.
The event is organised by the South Cumbria Rivers Trust and money raised will go towards conservation work in the South Lakes area.
