What is it?
This year’s Woolfest will take place in Cumbria on Friday 26th and Saturday 27th June 2015. The festival is a celebration of British wool and began in 2005.
Woolfest kicks off on Friday at 10am and continues until 5pm on Saturday, with a range of demonstrations, stalls, exhibitions and workshops. There will also be a fleece sale, where hundreds of raw fleeces from various breeders are sold to people for spinning.
Demonstrations include how to use fleece, tapestry weaving, Tunisian crochet, traditional Mapuche weaving from Chile, natural dollmaking and felting. Exhibitions this year will include sections of the Quaker Tapestry on display, and a Herdwick inspired exhibition of work from The Wool Clip. The Wool Clip is an award-winning co-operative of Cumbrian based crafts people.
There will be various events taking place over the two days in the main ring and the small ring. Events taking place in the main ring include sheep shearing demonstrations and a rare breed parade.
Stallholders at this year’s festival will include The Natural Fibre Company, Association of Guilds of Weavers, Spinners & Dyers, ArtyBird Carnforth, Bright Seed Textiles, CoolCrafting, Eta & Nico’s Woolly Wonders, Fox Tapestry Design and Natural Born Dyers.
