What is it?
Celebrate a world of wood at this year’s Woodfest in North Wales with chainsaw carving, traditional crafts, pole climbing and axe racing. The event takes place from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th June 2015.
Some of the highlights of the festival are the competitive axe racing, sawing and tree climbing events. These unusual and extreme competitions attract top axeman and lumberjacks from all over the world. Visitors will be able to see competitive woodchopping, crosscut sawing, tree climbing and chainsaw skills.
In addition there will be Pole Climbing Championships taking place at the festival. Two huge 80ft Douglas fir poles weighing over 6tons each will test competitors as they try to scale the poles in the fastest possible time.
Carve Cymru is the showpiece of Woodfest, and brings together the best chainsaw artists in the UK. Over the weekend the chainsaw artists will work on their sculptures, before they are auctioned off on the Sunday afternoon. On the Friday and Saturday visitors will also be able to see demonstrations of speed carving.
There will be a countryside arena at this year’s Woodfest with family activities and entertainment on offer. Arena events will include a dog show, horse logging, a ferret world, and a vintage tractor display. At the festival there will also be a timber framing arena, a food hall, and woodcraft marquees.
In addition to Woodfest itself there will be Bikefest and Woodfest Rocks for visitors to enjoy. Bikefest will see shows from a freestyle mountain bike stunt team, BMX riders and British champions. Woodfest Rocks will be providing live music over the 3 days from bands and artists including Contagious, the Hedge Gods, Viper Kings, and the Glendale Family.
For those wishing to make the most of the three days there will be camping available in an adjacent field to the festival, for a small additional cost.
