Lancashire flying high with two kite festivals this summer

Enjoy two kite festivals taking place in Lancashire this summer with the Catch the Wind Kite Festival and St Annes Kite Festival.

Catch the Wind Kite Festival

When: 27th & 28th June 2015, 12pm – 5pm
Where: The Promenade, Morecambe, Lancashire
£: Free
What is it?

This year’s Catch the Wind Kite Festival in Morecambe, will take place on Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th June 2015.

The event will see kites of all shapes and sizes flown by professional kites flyers.  Visitors are also encouraged to bring along their own kites to fly.  Other entertainment during the festival will include live music from bands and artists including Baybeat, Rafe Music Circus, Red Hippo and Maia. There will also be craft and drum workshops, a flea circus, a funfair and face painting. In addition visitors can enjoy the interactive Howling Wire sound installation from Sound Intervention.

St Annes Kite Festival  - Lancashire

Where: The beach, St Annes, Lancashire

What is it?

This year’s St Annes Kite Festival will take place on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th July 2015 in Lancashire.

St Annes seafront will be awash with colour on the Saturday and Sunday with an array of display kites on the beach adjacent to the pier.  The festival will feature single line kites of all shapes and sizes, including a 30 metre long inflatable Octopus, flying cows, dogs, hippos, and Oscar, the world’s largest teddy bear kite.  Visitors will also be able to see 2-line and 4-line stunt kites flown in time to music.  Visitors can bring their teddy bear or cuddly toy to take part in the teddy parachute drop, sponsored by Storytellers Inc Book Shop.  Each brave teddy will receive a certificate of achievement.  There will also be live music, a mini funfair, Punch and Judy, Melville and Catch’s Victorian Shoppe, market stalls, face painting, and a sandcastle competition.
