Where: The Barbican and Sutton Harbour, Plymouth, Devon

What is it?

Plymouth Pirate Weekend takes place on 16th and 17th May with family friendly events, competitions and activities.

The pirate themed entertainment will include appearances from the infamous Jonty Depp and stilt-walking pirates, and the YO HO HO pirate puppet show.  Other family-friendly activities will include the chance to dig for treasure, make pirate outfits and enrol in mermaid school.

For adults there will be a winching competition aboard the Helen Mary R, for both men and ladies, with prizes for the winners.  Other competitions taking place over the weekend will include a children’s fancy dress contest, a family fancy dress contest, a best pirate joke competition and a best photo with ‘Phillip the Prawn’ competition.

Visitors can see the Pirates of St Piran storming the tall ship, The Phoenix, which will be berthed in Sutton Harbour during the weekend.  Families will be able to go on board the ship to get a taste of life as a pirate, and the peril involved!

For visitors wishing to take to the sea like pirates, there will be Pirate Adventure Cruises taking place over the weekend, featuring tales about pirates and treasure hunting.  The trips will depart at 12pm and 2pm, and cost £10 for adults and £6 for children.  Fancy dress is encouraged.
