What is it?
Enjoy a day out with a difference and head along to the Dorset Knob Throwing and Frome Valley Food Festival on Sunday 3rd May 2015.
For the uninitiated, the Dorset Knob is a hard dry savoury biscuit which is currently only produced by one company, for a limited time of the year. Dorset Knobs are made from bread dough which contains extra sugar and butter. They are rolled and shaped by hand before being baked three times. The Dorset Knob is crumbly and similar to a rusk in consistency.
For those interested in taking part in this unique event, the rules are fairly simple to follow. Each competitor is given three knobs and the aim is to throw the biscuit as far as possible. Only under arm throws are allowed and one foot must remain on the ground whilst throwing.
In addition to the Dorset Knob Throwing competition, there will be additional fun knob-themed attractions including Knob eating, Knob painting, a knob and spoon race, guess the weight of the big Knob, Knob darts and a Knob pyramid. Other, more traditional entertainment, will also be on offer during the day.
The Frome Valley Food Festival will run along side the Dorset Knob Throwing. Visitors can sample, taste and purchase a range of local food and drink including bread, cheese, cider, pies, preserves and puddings.
The event raises money for local good causes including the Cricket Club, the Football Club, the playing fields and the Savill Hall.
