What is it?
Candoco Dance Company’s re-staging of Jérôme Bel’s award-winning The Show Must Go On will tour the UK from Friday 20th March 2015, with performances at Sadler’s Wells, Nottingham Playhouse and Glasgow’s Tramway.
Candoco Dance Company is the renowned contemporary dance company of disabled and non-disabled performers. For this production, the seven company dancers will be joined by a UK-wide cast of 20 performers, 19 pop songs and one DJ.
The Show Must Go On was created in 2001 and is one of the iconic works in the career of French choreographer Jérôme Bel. The show examines the relationship between art and life, constantly surprising and challenging the viewer’s expectations.
Controlled by a DJ and audio feed, the performers follow lyrics of the songs, ranging from musicals to well-loved pop songs. The show is noted for its inclusivity. For this re-staging, Candoco Dance Company will be recruiting performers from all over the UK to join the company of professional dancers. Some of the guest performers are trained dancers, some come from other performance backgrounds and for some it will be their first time on a stage. This mix, which invites audiences to see themselves on stage, quite simply creates an exciting and inclusive experience for audiences.
