What is it?
The annual Festival of Birds takes place on 31st January and 1st February at Slimbridge Wetland Centre in Gloucestershire, when bird numbers are at their highest.
Visitors can enjoy activities including wildlife talks, a bird spotting race, swan sketching, dog decoy demonstrations, wild bird feeds, and of course birdwatching. There will also be shopping stands with art, optics and outdoor clothing on offer.
Highlights at the festival will include:
Mike Dilger, star of the One Show, talking about the ‘Trials and Tribulations of Being a Wildlife Presenter’.
A Bird Race, with the chance to win a prize.
A chance to have a go at sketching Bewick’s swan bills. Each swan has a unique bill, like a fingerprint, so WWT scientists record each one individually.
The opportunity to improve your bird watching and spot many species with the help of the Guides in the Hides.
A working dog rounding up ducks in the water without even getting her paws wet.
WWT Slimbridge is the winter home of thousands of migrating birds including the famous Bewick’s swans.
