What is it?
For an alternative Christmas experience, why not take a special festive tour of the magically made over Leeds Town Hall? Visitors can climb the windy clock tower for a unique view of the twinkly city below, before heading south to discover an unexpected enchanted forest beneath the bustling streets of Leeds.
The Wood Beneath the World is a magical forest hidden in the basement rooms and corridors of Leeds Town Hall. Visitors can experience this immersive theatre event from 17th November to 23rd December 2014. The event features both evening performances and family storytelling sessions.
For the evening performances (suitable for those 12 years and over), guests can experience this visually stunning world with immersive performances, sound and lighting. Explore a place underneath the world with secrets, hidden rooms and unexpected turns.
Guests can then continue their magical journey with a visit to the Town Hall’s old Victorian cells, where there is a unique pop-up bar with mulled wine, cider and craft beer. The bar will be open to the public every weekday from 5pm to 11pm and at weekends from 11am to 11pm. The public may visit the pop-up bar without purchasing an event ticket.
There will also be family friendly sessions, led by Father Christmas, with storytelling.
