What is it?
Every November the city of Truro in Cornwall holds a lantern festival. This year’s City of Lights event takes place on Wednesday 19th November 2014, with the theme of Heroes.
The City of Lights lantern festival sees the streets filled with handmade and professional lanterns, as members of the local community parade through the city. The procession begins at 6.30pm at Truro High School for Girls and makes its way along Lemon Street and River Street. The schools taking part will finish at Hendra Park and the large lanterns will end up at Lemon Quay. There will be plenty of places along the route for spectators to view the parade.
As well as the lanterns there will be music and dance as part of the procession with samba, brass bands, and pipes and drums all taking part in the procession. The event also will include musical and dance performances before and after the parade, as well as the official switching on of the Christmas lights.
