Tea and tales at Settle Storytelling Festival

Settle Storytelling Festival takes place from 10th to 12th October 2014, bringing some of the world’s best storytellers to the Yorkshire Dales. The festival is a combination of stories, music, science and ideas.

Contrary Life has picked out some festival highlights:

Candlelit Story Trail
When: 10th October 2014, 6pm – 7pm
Where: Meet outside Victoria Hall
£: Tickets cost £6
What is it?
Weave through the cobbled streets of Settle by candlelight as Sita Brand, Festival Director, spins some yarns.

Stories on a Postcard Exhibition
When: 10th – 12th October 2014, 10am – 4.30pm
Where: The Waiting Room on Platform 1, Settle Station
£: Free
What is it?
An exhibition of stories all written on postcards.  See the collection of postcards before they fly away to be exhibited at a book store in Mumbai.

Lifeboat
When: 11th October 2014, 10.30am – 4.30pm
Where: Settle Market Place
£: Free
What is it?
Jump in and relax in a hammock on the ‘Lifeboat’.  See the world anew as the boat slowly moves round, chat to strangers and write your story in the ship’s log.

Hunt the Storyteller
When: 11th October 2014, 11am – 4pm
Where: Around Settle
£: Magic beans cost £2. Get a bag of magic beans from the festival box office on the day
What is it?
Hiding in gold hats all over town, the storytellers will be waiting to swap their stories for magic beans.

Ghost Stories
When: 11th October 2014, 10pm – 11.30pm
Where: The Royal Oak
£: Tickets cost £10
What is it?
Hear a 30,000 year old Aboriginal ghost story that’s never been recorded and acquaint yourself with ghosts and ghouls.

Tea and Tales
When: 12th October 2014, 3.30pm – 5.30pm
Where: St John’s Hall
£: Tickets cost £12 for adults, £7 for under 16s and £27 for a family
What is it?
Relax with a homemade cake and a cuppa whilst listening to tales of the good old days. are about to come out.  Share your story, grab another brew and let storyteller Ana Lines invite you into her performance of Barbequed Husbands.
