When: 9th – 12th October 2014

Where: Events Square, Falmouth, Cornwall

£: Free admission to the main event.  Some events are ticketed

What is it?

Falmouth Oyster Festival returns for the 18th year, from 9th to 12th October 2014.

The last remaining traditional fishery in Europe, the Port of Truro Oyster Fishery is the only one still fished using traditional sail power and hand-pulled dredges.  The annual festival celebrates the start of the oyster dredging season and the diversity of Cornish seafood.  There will be four days of feasting, cooking demos, live music and craft stalls.

The festival has attracted the doyens of the Cornish culinary circuit including TV presenter James Strawbridge, 7th Rise founder and star of Hugh’s Three Hungry Boys, Thom Hunt; plus there will be a cookery demo from Michelin starred Chris Eden.

The Falmouth Oyster Festival will kick off with a Grand Opening Bash when the Oysterman returns to Events Square along with a performance by local school children and a demo by The Oyster Lady, Katy Davidson.  The Hot Chefs Challenge returns on the Friday night with Arty Williams, The Cove Restaurant, battling out against Nick Hodges, Fire Kitchen.  Saturday’s demo stage is opened by James Strawbridge followed by the infamous oyster shucking competition.

Over the four days of the festival there will be an Oyster Parade, a Working Boat Race, live music and sea shanties, local ale and, naturally, a freshly shucked oyster.
