Where: Redruth, Cornwall

£: Most events are free.

What is it?

Redruth in Cornwall will be hosting a Mining and Pasty Festival, from Friday 12th to Sunday 14th September 2014, to celebrate the area’s culture and heritage.

Friday 12th September will be Miner’s Day featuring tales from Cornish mines with storyteller Mark Haradon, and a street play about the life of a miner.  There will also be exhibitions and displays on mining, plus experts will be on hand in the afternoon from Geevor, East Pool Mine and the Town Museum & Federation of Old Cornwall Societies.

Saturday 13th September is Pasty Day in Redruth, beginning at 10am, with a whole host of pasty-themed activities for all the family.  The day will have food, drink and craft stalls, cookery demonstrations, fair rides and live music. There will be a make your own pasty activity and an oggy treasure trail to take part in.  A Cornish-themed fancy dress competition will also take place on the Saturday.  Visitors are encouraged to take part and there will be prizes for the best dressed.

Sunday 14th September is Memorial Day when there will be a blessing of the graves, Cornish stories, songs and dancing, a pasty lunch and cream teas.
