What is it?
The village of Clovelly celebrates its famous lobsters and crabs, sustainably caught by its fishermen, with the Clovelly Lobster and Crab Feast. The family friendly event offers visitors the chance to try a variety of lobster and crab dishes, as well as enjoy children’s activities, stalls and live music.
Visitors can choose from a variety of crab and lobster dishes cooked on the quay or book a table at the Red Lion Harbour Restaurant and feast on lobster, crab and seafood platters, with a complimentary glass of bubbly. There will also be cookery demonstrations, a prize draw for a magnum of champagne, local food and craft stalls, and beer tasting.
The Crab and Lobster Feast isn’t just about the food though. There will be a whole array of entertainment during the day including live folk music by Jim Causley, The O’Marleys, The Vagrant Ramblers and Daisy Jane. Street theatre, walkabout magic, balloon modelling and themed craft activities provided by North Devon AONB, should keep families busy.
The event is held in aid of the National Lobster Hatchery, Padstow. The hatchery will be at the event with some of their baby lobsters, which will be released into Clovelly Bay at the end of the day. The National Lobster Hatchery are working on a restocking project. Local fishermen bring female lobsters to the hatchery so that their delicate offspring are given a better chance to survive without the threat of predators. Once the young lobsters reach a reasonable size they are released back into the sea.
