What is it?
The 10th annual Stock Gaylard Oak Fair will take place on 23rd and 24th August 2014.
The Stock Gaylard Oak Fair is a celebration of oak, timber and the countryside. The event will bring together a mix of rural crafts, conservation projects and local food producers. The family friendly event will take place at the Stock Gaylard estate, near Sherborne in Dorset.
Dike & Son will be in the food market square over the two days with Camilla, a life-size milkable model cow. Oak Fair visitors will be encouraged to have a go at ‘milking’ Camilla to demonstrate the importance of food provenance.
Special events at this year’s fair will include displays from Adam’s Axemen, heavy horses, displays from Mere Down Falconry, art workshops and scarecrow making in the Children’s Area, dray rides around Church Park, and a chainsaw carving demonstration. There will also be tractor rides around the deer park, charcoal making and chair making demonstrations, and butterfly walks and talks. Visitors can even have a go at the traditional longbow with the Society for the Promotion of Traditional Archery.
The Stock Gaylard estate is a small traditional country estate in rural Dorset, surrounded by centuries’ old hedgerows and an 80-acre deer park.
